Estate agents see asking prices rise, research shows

New research has revealed that the average asking price for a house
in Britain increased by 3.2 per cent in February compared with the
previous month.
This puts the average amount requested by vendors at £229,398,
according to a Rightmove survey.
In its monthly House Price Index, the organisation also found that
search activity on its website increased by 29 per cent in January,
compared with the same month in 2009.
However, Miles Shipside, commercial director of Rightmove,
explained that more supply is returning to the property market in
some areas of the country, which could have an impact on any
further price rises.
"Where property supply is closer to pre-crunch levels, sellers
should price more aggressively having critically compared their
property to recent actual sales," he advised.
According to the latest data from the Land Registry, which relates
to property prices in December, vendors appear to be pricing well
above average house prices, which reached £161,783 at the end
of 2009.
